Spirit Activation When you first start the game, make an educated guess on where your opponent's castle resides on the map. You won't always be right, but as you play more games you will find that doing so becomes easier. This is an important step, because you want to keep your spirits protected from the enemy. It is usually a good idea to place your energy on the opposite side of your castle from your opponent. Make it as hard for him to sabotage your energy as possible. ![]() In the above example, you are better off activating your energy to the east of the silver castle instead of the northwest. Both are homelands terrain, but the area to the east is harder for your opponent to attack. Often it is a good idea to use a fast moving scout to place energy even further away from your enemy, in some dark corner of the map where he is unlikely to travel. Since most spirits can't attack when you first activate them, it is a good idea to keep them out of danger. With archers in particular, I always place them on the opposite side from my opponent, unless I am absolutely sure he can't get to them that turn. Remember to keep some choice homelands terrain available around your castle when possible, instead of filling it all up with energy. I try to keep the few hexes around my castle that are closest to my enemy free for the use of combat spirits. Having some open homelands terrain in this area will make it much easier to defend your castle and keep your opponent at bay. |
